What is a Breast Ultrasound?
A Breast ultrasound is performed to either evaluate a lump or an abnormality seen on a mammogram. Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves with no x-rays or radiation to the breast. Breast ultrasound may be the first and only test performed to evaluate a palpable lump in a young patient 30 years old or less.

The exam is performed by a radiologist or certified technologist. No preparation is required for a breast ultrasound. A small amount of gel is placed on the breast and the area in question is scanned with an ultrasound transducer (fancy microphone). A certified radiologist interprets the ultrasound.

All Vista ultrasound facilities are certified by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
